Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill have been selected from 46 architecture teams to design the renewable energy powered World Expo 2017 site in Astana, Kazakhstan.
Located in Kazakhstan’s capital, the 173 hectare expo site will be entirely powered by wind and solar power in accordance with the expo’s “Future Energy” theme. AS+GG was selected because their design was the most practical in terms of sustainability and architecture, and it can be utilized for many years after the expo has run its course. The buildings and the landscaping will be constructed using the principles of environmentally, economically and socially sustainable design.
